What another busy week, Ken is working today and did a couple of loads of laundry. Also set up email and logged into CPanel for the new website.
Weather is 'iffy' at best today, cool and overcast, no rain so far at least.
June 11, 2011
Ken is off to work today, not his usual shift but they are still working on running 3 trams on weekends so he is doing this one. When he got there they decided not to run the third tram after all as the weather was not that great. Looked like rain for sure
It was shopping in the morning and was home about 2:30. Made a drop in visit to Linda Simon. Was so good to see her and have the chance to have a real one on one chat for a change. She was quite excited, and so was I, to tell me that her son Tyler was the pilot on the flight to take our PM Stephen Harper on his surprise visit to the troops last week in Afghanistan.
Once home I spent a lot of today reading and viewing tutorials on the different aspects of the website. By the time I finished my head was spinning and my mind was going a mile a minute thinking of all the possibilities for the site.
June 10, 2011
The sun is shining nicely so far this morning and Ken is off to play golf while I head up to the Rec Hall for coffee hour and then Tai chi.
A bit of cleaning (floor washing, vaccuuming, etc.) and then we took a drive to Rosehill Auctions to see what they might have in Dishwashers. The only one that I saw that would have been close to what I wanted was a Samsung and the writing on the control panel buttons was not very clear. Was glad we went however as I feel even better about the dishwasher that I have ordered.
On the way home we stop at 3West for a drink and decide we will come back here for their fish tonight. The fish was OK but we both still prefer it at the Ridgeway Legion and it's even a bit cheaper there too. The place has been fixed up nicely and I hope it does well.
June 9, 2011
Ken is off to work this morning and am not playing golf today, still feeling quite sore and it's very humid this morning so felt that golf was not a good plan. As soon as I got up was able to update the website for today. Called John Shumilak and went over to help him with some computer issues. Did a bike ride before I went and boy was I tired and thirsty when I got there.
This afternoon attended the funeral for Katherine Fishers mother Sirka Blank. It was at the Butler Funeral Home in St. Catharines (Duke St.) at 2:00 pm. I arrived about 1:35 and got almost the last parking spot in the lot. It was a nice service, her sorority sisters did a ceremony to begin. Interment was in Victoria Lawn Cemetery on Queenston Street and then back to Katherine's home in Grimsby for dinner and conversation.
The trip to the cemetery was interesting as the funeral procession ending up being cut into several times and it was a good thing I had a good idea how to get there. I ended up leading about 10 other cars there also. The interment service was lovely, flowers were so nice and Katherine made a point of making sure that everyone had a bloom from the arrangement covering the casket.
I ended up sitting with several of Katherine's friends and it was a thoroughly pleasant afternoon. They have a lovely home right on Lake Erie. We sat on the deck overlooking the lake; wonderful breeze and occasional cloud kept the temperature just right. The refreshments were truly a meal and everything was delicious. It was after 6:00 when I finally left for home.
Made a stop at Costco to pick up a chicken and a couple of other items making it shortly after 7:00 by the time I got home. Ken was at the hall playing poker by the time I got home. Was too tired to go to games night tonight but had to make a quick trip to the Rec Hall to unhook and bring home the modem and router we used at Computer Club yesterday.
June 8, 2011
This morning took the modem and router up early and got it up and running for Computer Club this afternoon; then coffee hour.
Another good group out for Club this afternoon. We really covered a lot of things today and I hope they were able to take in some of what we discussed. After the regular meeting stayed and helped a couple of other people. By the time I left it was after 4:00. Once home I got people added to the list and things emailed to the group. A couple of people suggested we do a 'class' on wireless next time so I researched and prepared this for next time.
After I was in bed realized that I had not unhooked the modem and router and they were both still at the hall. Will get it picked up tomorrow morning.
June 5, 2011
Another warm and sunny day. Ken is off to work this morning. I'm meeting a group of old friends at Betty's Restaurant for the Disher Family & Friends Reunion at 12:30. It's so nice to catch up with everyone even if it is just once a year
June 4, 2011
Well today is the day to see about a new dishwasher, just tired of having to wash dishes before putting them in. Did my homework but will be interesting to see if I remember anything when I get to the store. Tried Ridgeway Furniture but they were just way too expensive. Drove to St. Catharines; looked at Home Depot, they have a Maytag that will do pretty well everything that I want and the price is decent at $598. plus $50 delivery and $20 to take away the old one. From there it's off to Future Shop. They didn't have anything I liked for the same price range.
Once I was home decided to just go ahead an order the Maytag JetClean from Home Depot; have to wait for about 3 weeks for it but mine still works so that's not a big deal.
Tonight is the D Day dinner for the Artillery Association at the Legion on Spring St. in Niagara Falls. First time to have it there; food was very good and nice to have parking, hope we can have it there again next year. Was good to see everyone again, especially Sue & Bill Hems as we didn't get to see them in Florida this past winter.
June 3, 2011
Decide to try Missy's Love is in the Hair in Stevensville for my hair cut this time. Called for an appt and when I got there the young girl at the desk greeted me by name. She had cut my hair before at SuperCuts in Niagara Falls. She did a pretty good job, much better than the last cut I got in NF. It was a little more money $18 (plus tip) but I didn't have to drive into the Falls so probably saved enough in gas to cover the added cost.

June 4, 2011
Busy couple of days. Yesterday, in the rain, thunder and lightning decided to go dishwasher shopping. Went to several stores and came home to make a decision. Decided on the Maytag JetClean in white from Home Depot. Called HD and ordered it. Won't be here until June 23 and they will delivering it here and taking away my old one (for a $20 charge) but since I've waited this long that's not a big deal. My old one still works, just not that well. After 17 1/2 years my old Maytag is ready to retire, sure doesn't owe me anything.
Couldn't believe just how tired this shopping made me, had to have a lay down before getting ready for the D-Day dinner at the Legion in Niagara Falls.
Ken wants to drop off the wagon we got years ago (for when the grandkids came) to Abra and Tyler for Haydon so we do this also before dinner.
We arrive at the Legion on Spring St about 6:35 and are so pleased to see Bill & Sue Hems' truck in the parking lot. We didn't know for sure if they were going to get here this year. It's always great to get together with everyone at this yearly event. This was the first year at the Legion and it was very nice, dinner was served buffet and was very good (roast beef, etc.) and lots of room also. Hope we can do it there again next year.
Couldn't get to sleep, Ken was snoring up a storm so I just gave up, got up and stayed up until close to 4:00 am, finally back to bed but Ceejay decided to want out at 5:30 so was back up then. Woke up at 7:30 and was up for the day.
June 5, 2011
This was a beautiful day, sunny and warm. Ken is working again today (half day only) and I am off to Chippawa for lunch at Betty's. The annual Disher Family and Friends get together is being held there again this year. Unlike last year we had a buffet and it was excellent, lots of variety and lots of food. The service was great also.
This is another day that I look forward to from year to year; don't get much chance to touch base with old friends from my childhood. Was such a fun time!
Had to fill my car with gas and that was not a fun time.....not used to paying almost $50 to fill my car....ouch!!!!
Well am hoping for a better nights sleep tonight.

Well another busy week has come and gone.
Sunday, May 29, 2011
My sister Virginia came to spend a few days in our area. She arrived in Toronto last Wednesday and has been visiting with her daughter Sharon and son James.
James and his partner Traci had the opportunity to visit Jordan and had a wonderful time there along with Traci's grandmother. Traci's aunt works for the US consulate so having someone in the country made the visit even more enjoyable for them.
They loved the trip and found Jordan a great place to tour; antiquities and new scenery galore. I'm so pleased for them to have had this opportunity.
Virginia arrived at our place about 8:00 after having dinner with our son Scott and his family. My memory is getting so bad lately. She had told me in one of our conversations that she was stopping by their place on her way from Toronto to us but I had forgotten so was getting a little concerned when she hadn't arrived my 6:00. Daughter Sue called and she reminded me about her stop at Scott's.
Monday, May 30, 2011
We had a bit of a catch up Sunday night before bedtime and then some time Monday morning before she left to meet her friend Lynda Zavitz for the rest of the day and an overnight with her at the family cottage on Lake Erie.
Ken's truck is having some serious brake issues and he took to a fellow on Hwy 3 to have it fixed. Virginia and I were going to take my car to the US tomorrow but Ken will need my car to get to and from work so that won't work out very well. Monday morning we checked with the car rental company (Budget) to make sure she could take the rental over the border. All is good with that so we can take that vehicle.
May 31, 2011
Tuesday she met me at our house about 10:00 am and we were off to visit cousin Sue McClary in Amherst. It's been a long time since the 3 of us have spent this much time together. We arrived at Sue's home on Brendans Place at 11:00 so the trip took us about 35-40 minutes; not bad considering we had to cross the border.
Sue is in the process of some renovations in the house that she bought a couple of months ago and selling the home she is currently in which is only 3 years old. She found a lovely, older home almost around the corner from her son David's and the two properties actually are almost back to back in the rear yards. This will be even more convenient for them both as Sue is with her grandson most mornings before school and then some afternoons also.
The three of us were off to lunch at the Old Country Buffet on Transit Road for lunch and I make a quick trip into Best Buy there also to check out a couple of things before we eat.
Food was excellent and we ended up having a 2 hour lunch (more gabbing of course). After lunch we went to the 'new house' for a tour. It's such a comfortable feeling home, even with no furniture and some construction being done. It was built in the 70's but had an upgrade in the late 90's. Sue is redoing the counters, etc. in the kitchen and added an Island she is also redoing both of the bathrooms and once the reno's are done will be moving in. Hopefully her present home will be sold by then but if not then she will have to consider other options in the meantime.
From there we had a quick visit with David, Kecia and Dillon before heading back to Sue's present home. About 7:00 we realize we are getting hungry and Sue drives us to Pautler's Drive in for a fast food dinner. She didn't realize that Tuesday Nights are Cruise Nights there so it was a challenge to find a parking spot. At least, as we were on the late side, we didn't have to wait long to place our order.
It was about 8:45 when we left Sue's and headed home. Was a long day but a good one.
June 1, 2011
Virginia left our place about 10:30 to meet her friend Iris in Port Robinson for a visit before she meets with Candy, Felice, Sue Cullen and myself at Candy's home in Welland.
Was so good to all get together, Candy's little guy 'Seppi' is almost one now and is such a sweet little guy. Her husband Vinnie joined us also.
Virginia and I decided to have dinner together in Welland before she headed back to Toronto and we met at the Red Rice Restaurant at the Seaway Mall. Even though it was a short visit with us she managed to get a lot of visiting done. She may be back in September for another quick visit so perhaps can see the ones she didn't see this time then.
June 2, 2011
Not much sleep last night, Ceejay was having trouble and was very restless, I finally got up with him about 1:30 and by the time he was feeling better it was about 4:30. I didn't want to take a chance on waking Ken so Ceejay and I curled up on recliner until about 7:00.
Ken is working and I am playing golf this morning.
Golf was a disaster, the grass is so long on the fairways (too wet to cut) that when you hit a short ball (as I do) you can't hit it far enough to keep it out of the long grass. Trying to hit out of long grass like that is very hard on my hands because of the arthritis and by the time we had finished 7 holes I was so sore I had to give in and quit. Between cold temps this morning and trying to hit the ball my body was not happy with me at all. A few of us have decided that until they are able to get the grass cut properly it just won't be worth playing. I really hope it stays dry enough for them to accomplish this before next Thursday as I hate to miss.
Had a very quick visit from son Steve in the afternoon. He had to make a visit to the Ridgeway NAPA store this morning and dropped in on his way home. Was hoping he could have spent the night with us but he had to be in Ridgetown in the morning so wanted to get home.
Had a call from my sister letting me know she had stopped by Zion Cemetery last night and the marker for our mom has been installed. I have to call and find out why they put the marker (and relaid dad's the same way) with the lettering facing in a different direction from the other stones.
Was good that I had told Phyllis I might not be at Games Night tonight as I would have had to cancel anyway, just way too tired. Went to bed about 7:30 and I'm sure I was asleep before 8.
June 3, 2011
Well, falling asleep so early last night meant waking up very early this morning (2:00 am). Sure hope that I get in a bit of a nap this afternoon so that I get to sleep at a more reasonable time tonight.
Ken is going golfing this morning and I have coffee hour and then Tai Chi. The rest of the day looks clear so I should be able to get some laundry done and might even try for a hair cut.

May 28, 2011
Well it's been a few days since I have added anything. Have been a bit busy. Played Ladies Poker on Tuesday and actually won a bit so it was even more fun. Last week we had a Birthday Celebration for 2 of our players. This of course meant, food and drink.... oh gosh I hate when that happens....NOT!!!!Wednesday was coffee hour in the morning and then Computer Club in the afternoon. It's a fun group and we have a few laughs along with learning stuff. Off in the evening to have dinner with friends at the home of another friend who recently had a knee replacement. We all chipped in and picked up dinner. Again was such a fun time, more laughs, gossip and general good times.
The thunderstorms began before I got home but then we had heavy rain, high winds and just general nastiness. Our little dog Ceejay was not a happy camper for sure. There was a lot of pacing, panting and hiding under the covers going on.
Thursday was supposed to be golf league but as it was raining most of the night and still raining by the time we were to leave this just didn't happen. Instead I went into the 'Falls' for some fun shopping, a visit with my granddaughter Abra (she turned 21 today), lunch with a friend at Swiss Chalet and then shopping at Walmart. I was one tired puppy when I finally got home. Since I had wakened at 4:30 was ready for bed nice and early. At least getting up that early gave me lots of time to update the BCLH Community web site before I went out this morning.
Friday morning is coffee hour and then our first Tai Chi session. What a nice workout, pretty confusing as to the moves the first time but I'm sure that it will all work out and get easier each time. We are meeting friends for dinner in Ridgeway tonight and then coming back to their place to play some cards after. I'm really looking forward to it.

Saturday May 21, 2011
Another busy productive day. Was very sore today so just 'futzed' around with computer and phone stuff most of the day. Joanne and Dani went back to the US this morning, they are meeting friends of Joanne's that she hasn't seen in many, many years. They were meeting at Applebees on Niagara Falls Blvd. for lunch. Traffic is backed up going into US for almost 2 hours. Good thing they gave themselves enough time.
I have been trying to solve a problem with the website, some characters display in a strange way. Found out it has to do with how the browser encodes language. The three that I use are Unicode and my main page was Western. I changed all of the pages and redid the save and upload. Worked for a bit but didn't last too long. Back to the drawing board I'm afraid.
Dani and Jo were back about 2:30 to pick up their things and head back to London, Dani has to work at 5 so they have no time for much of a visit.
Ken put the top on the Gazebo and got out the chairs. He picked up flowers yesterday and has them all planted now. He has been so busy getting everything done. He was under the house this morning cleaning up a real mess. The insulation had fallen down, letting in some 'wee beasties'. Hopefully now that will no longer be possible.
I am very tired by the time I crawl into bed and it doesn't take me long to fall asleep.

Was up way too early this morning (3:00 am) and couldn't get back to sleep. Did some research on the computer and then added 'apps' etc. to my smart phone.
Off to coffee in the 'Library' and to see about getting the 'roaming' feature turned off in my cell phone. They were so nice at Future shop, my phone doesn't have a setting for this so she contacted Koodo directly to find out how. Well after 30 minutes on the phone (between the 2 of us) and some research by the Koodo rep discovered that my LG Optimus will not do this. I will just have to watch my bill and if there are any roaming charges that are not legit they will take them off for me. I was able to stop the data roaming feature and they could block the text roaming feature so I'm good to go for now. Thanks to Scott I also turned off the ability to use the data feature on the phone unless I purposely turn it on. The amount of data you can use for the price is pretty chintzy but it will be worth it if I am in a situation where I really need it. At home I use my own wifi and if I'm anywhere else with wifi can still use that to connect to the internet.
At 11:45 met Irene Blokhuis at Shoeless Joe's (Fairview Mall) for lunch. The food was excellent and not over priced. Would go back there again for sure. We had a 2 hour gab fest as we had a lot of catching up to do. I'm already looking forward to our next get together.
Did some shopping after lunch (Costco and Walmart) and was home shortly after 4. Checked out my facebook and saw that Joanne was online. She and Dani are actually on the way here and should arrive in about 30 minutes. They are just dropping off their stuff and then heading to Buffalo for a visit with Joanne's mom and dad. They will be coming back here for the night.
Ken and I are off to the Ridgeway Legion for Fish and Chips after they leave. It was excellent! After dinner we drove down to Fort Erie and then followed the Niagara River to get home. Was a lovely drive and so nice to see everything with the sun shining on it. By the time we got home I was really tired and decided to just crawl into bed to watch some TV and make an early night of it.

My Day May 19, 2011
What a fun day it turned out to be. No golf this morning, tried to help a friend get her printer going but didn't have any luck with it, think I knew what the problem was, but didn't know how to correct it.
Also did some more research into another web site provider for our Black Creek website. Called hostpapa and got info from them.
Daughter sent me a text asking if I wanted to go 'dress' shopping with her this afternoon. Aurora needs a dress for her prom and we are looking in the US for one.
Afraid we didn't have any luck, things are pretty well picked over but anything we thought she would like was way, way, too much money and if they want to spend that much they can probably get something here at home.
By the time we finished checking out the Walden Galleria and the Boulevard Mall was completely pooped and ready to head home. Sue doesn't like to drive in the US so I drove her car. She has a nice little Kia Rio and it's very nice, handles well and a nice ride on the road.
Tonight I am off to a board meeting, sure hope it doesn't last too long as I am pretty pooped.

My Day May 18, 2011
Well it was another rainy day here in Niagara. We did see the sun for a little bit but that sure didn't last long enough. While the sun was out we did a quick bicycle ride around our park.
Golf is off tomorrow as our course is basically under water and for sure riding carts would not be allowed. Oh well, maybe next week.
